In plain English

St Helens Council wants a contractor to steam clean and wash its vehicles at Hardshaw Brook Depot, including cars, 32-tonne roll-on/roll-off vehicles, refuse and recycling lorries, adapted buses and tractors. About 80 of the fleet need around six steam cleans a year, but the Council cannot guarantee how many jobs it will send, so the contractor is paid on agreed rates.

What the buyer wants

• Provide rates for steam cleaning the chassis, body and ancillary equipment of a wide range of council vehicles, with a pricing schedule showing each wash type • Carry out cleaning in the designated wash bay, including out-of-hours and weekend work where a vehicle cannot be available during the day • Keep the wash bay, wash ramp and recessed ramp area clean, and follow depot security barrier access rules at all times

Likely requirements

Our reading of the notice. Always check the tender documents.

The lack of guaranteed work, the need to cover out-of-hours and weekend jobs at short notice, and the requirement for steam cleaning capacity across very large vehicles could put off small firms without enough equipment or staff to respond quickly.

How to bid

This is an open tender: any eligible business can respond directly to the buyer by the deadline, with no framework membership needed.
