In plain English
The UK Ministry of Defence is looking for suppliers to repair military vehicle axles, transmissions and related parts for Land Rovers, WMIKs, Cougars, Jackals and Pinzgauers. This is a 5-year framework agreement (with two optional 1-year extensions) worth £4.648 million split across three lots. No work is guaranteed: suppliers will be asked to quote on individual repair jobs as they arise.
What the buyer wants
• Repair and overhaul axles, transmissions and associated assemblies for five different military vehicle types (12 specific part types for Land Rover/RWMIK, 5 for Cougar/Jackal, 10 for Pinzgauer) • Achieve and maintain ISO 9001:2015 quality certification (or equivalent) • Meet Key Performance Indicators for delivery speed and quality standards, with penalties for poor performance • Submit expression of interest via the Defence Sourcing Portal with a Procurement Specific Questionnaire
Lots
- Lot 1 - The Repair of Land Rover and RWMIK Axles, Transmissions and Associated Assemblies
- Lot 2 - The Repair of Cougar and Jackal Transmissions and Associated Assemblies
- Lot 3 –The Repair of Pinzgauer Axles, Transmissions and Associated Assemblies
Likely requirements
Our reading of the notice. Always check the tender documents.
Most small repair shops will be ruled out because: (1) ISO 9001:2015 certification is mandatory and costly to obtain, (2) no work is guaranteed even if you win the framework (you only get paid if Defence asks you to quote), (3) military vehicle repair requires specialised technical knowledge and equipment most general repair businesses do not have, and (4) you must be able to work to strict defence standards and cyber security requirements.
How to bid
This is a framework: the buyer picks a set of suppliers now and awards work to them over several years. If you are not on it when it is awarded, you usually cannot win work from it until it is re-tendered, so this is the window to bid.
