Home Group, a large housing provider, is setting up a framework of approved asbestos contractors across four regions of the UK, worth about £5 million in total. Under the framework, selected firms will carry out asbestos surveys, air testing, lab analysis, and both licensed and non-licensed asbestos removal, plus any repair work needed afterwards, across its homes and commercial properties.
What the buyer wants
• Surveying and analytical firms: carry out management, refurbishment, demolition and re-inspection surveys, plus air monitoring and laboratory analysis, to the required accreditation standard. • Removal contractors: carry out licensed and non-licensed asbestos removal, and reinstatement remedial works where needed. • Bidders must pass a quality stage and score highly to be ranked, with two surveying providers and one removal contractor appointed per regional lot.

A business without the HSE asbestos licence for licensed removal, or without UKAS accreditation for surveying and analysis, will be excluded at the outset, and firms without the capacity to cover a whole regional lot may struggle to be ranked.
