In plain English
Argyll and Bute Council wants to appoint contractors to a pre-approved list that its roads team can call on for temporary traffic management, such as traffic lights, stop/go workers and convoys, on rural and urban roads. The list is split into three geographic areas, and each time work is needed the council places a separate order with a contractor. Being on the list does not guarantee any work.
What the buyer wants
• Install, maintain and remove temporary traffic management on roads across the area you apply for, following Chapter 8 of the standards for safe execution of programmed construction works. • Provide the listed items for your chosen area, including manned and unmanned 2-way, 3-way and 4-way traffic lights, 2-person and 3-person stop/go systems, 3-person and 4-person convoys, and weekly battery charging for unmanned lights. • Respond to individual orders from the council's roads and amenities staff as they arise, with no separate tender for each job.
Lots
- Mainland and Isle of Bute (East) (Bute & Cowal and Helensburgh & Lomond)
- Mainland (West) (Mid-Argyll, Kintyre, Oban & Lorn)
- Islands (West)
Requirements
What could rule a small business out: The notice requires contractors to be "qualified" but does not say what qualifications are needed, and it is likely to rule out small businesses that cannot supply the full range of manned and unmanned lights, stop/go and convoy staff across a whole geographic area, since there is no guaranteed volume of work to justify that investment.
Always check the tender documents.
How to bid
This is a framework: the buyer picks a set of suppliers now and awards work to them over several years. If you are not on it when it is awarded, you usually cannot win work from it until it is re-tendered, so this is the window to bid.
