In plain English

Yorwaste Ltd, a waste company owned by North Yorkshire Council and City of York Council, wants to hire hauliers to move non-hazardous household and commercial waste from its transfer stations in North Yorkshire to disposal and recycling sites, mainly Allerton Waste Recovery Park. The work is split into three geographic lots, and suppliers can bid for one, several or all of them, with each lot running for two years with options to extend by up to three more.

What the buyer wants

• Price every collection route from each transfer station in the lot you bid for, including routes to Allerton Waste Recovery Park and up to 33 contingency sites in Lot 1 • Carry black bag waste, bulky waste, recyclables, paper and card, and green waste, wood and compost safely and on time, as the service is critical to Yorwaste's operations • Accept that there are no guaranteed volumes and that the lot is awarded on the Most Advantageous Tender basis, with the contract able to be extended at Yorwaste's discretion

Likely requirements

Our reading of the notice. Always check the tender documents.

The biggest barrier is having enough suitable haulage vehicles and drivers to cover every route and contingency site in a lot for up to five years with no guaranteed volumes, which would deter smaller operators from bidding for Lot 1 in particular, although the geographic lots make the smaller lots more accessible.

How to bid

This is an open tender: any eligible business can respond directly to the buyer by the deadline, with no framework membership needed.
