In plain English
SRUC, a Scottish agricultural and veterinary education provider, is setting up a list of approved veterinary practices to host final-year veterinary students on clinical placements. Practices will teach, mentor and formally assess students during their intramural rotations, with the list open for the whole of its validity and no guaranteed volume of work.
What the buyer wants
• Host final-year veterinary students on supervised clinical placements of around 35 hours per week, with MRCVS vets (at least three years' clinical experience) mentoring at a ratio of about 1:2. • Provide work-based clinical learning aligned with SRUC learning outcomes and RCVS Day 1 Competences, and carry out formal student assessment. • Meet the mandatory requirements: complete the Single Procurement Document (Scotland) and SRUC's questionnaire, pass a site visit, hold RCVS Practice Standards Scheme accreditation at Core level or equivalent, and carry insurance of GBP 5 million employer's liability, GBP 250 thousand professional indemnity and GBP 5 million public liability (as applicable). Indicative tariff is GBP 350 per student per week excluding VAT.

Requirements
Named in the buyer's notice:
- Public Liability Insurance
- Professional Indemnity Insurance
What could rule a small business out: Practices without RCVS Practice Standards Scheme accreditation at Core level or demonstrably equivalent standards, or those unable to meet the stated insurance levels, staffing and supervision requirements, would most likely be ruled out, and the pass/fail site visit could also exclude smaller premises.
